AzhwAr feels that BAgavata SEShatva is better than Bagavat SEShatva. This tirumozhi is also on tirukkaDal mallai. But the emphasis is not on the divya dESa or BagavAn but on the BAgavatas living there.

I think and respect those BAgavatas who always think of Him who—took mOhini avatAra and cheated the asuras by distributing the nectar to the dEvas only; who resides for ever in kaDal mallai tala Sayanam. I think of those non-Baktas as non existing or non-living creatures.

vALavuNar—AzhwAr says the asuras always carry swords in order to kill the BAgavatas whom they don’t like. BagavAn carries swords in order to protect the BAgavatas and to kill such asuras.

There is periya pirATTi in His tirumArbu and Boomi pirATTi on His left side. Both of them speak for the Baktas and request BagavAn to pardon their sins. Those BAgavatas who think of Him with pirATTi, I think of them and find us their dAsas.

emberumAn resides in kaDal mallai, a divya dESa amidst forest. He is a jnAna swaroopi and is called jnAnappirAn. He is the one who lifted Boomi pirATTi with such love and care without harm to the original charm. He is the one who is eulogized by the dEvas according to their capacity and status. Those who worship Him are worshipped by me.

BagavAn killed the rAkShasas in the war since they had ahankAra (ego and pride). They were made the food for wolves and jackals and finally consumed by the fire. The wives of those rAkShasas lamented over the loss of their husbands. AzhwAr says—let Him destroy my ahankAra too and make me His dAsa. Those BAgavatas who worship Him are the gods of me and my kula.

Oh! Mind! Do not worship the so called gods like ‘sarvajna’—worshipped by arhatas—a sect of jains who carry in their hands a peacock feathers umbrella and a fan posing themselves as ‘dhArmikas’. You worship those who worship BagavAn residing at kaDal mallai.

SamaN kuNDar mudalAyOr—The reference is not only about jains but also about budhists, sAnkyas and such non-vEdic sects.

AzhwAr feels happy that his mind is not lured by such non-vEdic sects but seeks the tiruvaDi of Sree vaiShNava BAgavatas only.

kaDal mallai is a coastal city. The ships with heavy cargos carrying elephants, heaps of gold, heaps of precious arms etc. are seen sailing in the sea. They appear as of they are going to sink anytime due to their heavy load. BagavAn resides in this city, whom the BAgavatas worship and do pradakShiNa. AzhwAr asks His mind to follow them instead of being lured by the treasures and pleasures of this world. ‘go and seek those BAgavatas who desire nothing but Him’—He orders his mind.

Oh! My good heart! You worship and meditate those BAgavatas who meditate Him residing in kaDal mallai. He is the emberumAn who killed pootana who came disguisedas yaSOda to kill Him with poison smeared breasts. It is He who killed the wicked kamsa who planned to kill Him.

panjichiru koozhai—It can refer both kriShNa and yaSOda. If it refers to kriShNa, it means the tiny tender hearted baby.

There are fertile lands in kaDal mallai. The farmers are always busy ploughing the fields. The water logged fields have abundant lotuses and sengazhuneer flowers. When the farmers plough, the flowers get crushed and some however, escape. That scatter the sweet aroma around. Here resides BagavAn and His dAsas. AzhwAr asks his mind to worship those dAsas who worship Him.

AzhwAr speaks of His souSeelya guNa in this pASura. He mires with those who are very much lower to Him. Here he talks of emberumAn’s souSeelya of offering ever a part of His body to Siva who roams in the cremation grounds and dances with ashes smeared all over his body. He resides in kaDal mallai where live BAgavatas who adore Him. AzhwAr says he would worship those good souls and vaiShNavas.

These ten pASuras sung by the dAsa of BagavAn’s dAsas (BAgavatas) about the emberumAn of kaDal mallai tala Sayana has the Pala of giving the supreme rule ship to those who read and meditate on them.

nanjeeyar asked BaTTar ‘swAmin! AzhwAr says BAgavata SEShatva is greater than Bagavat SEShatva. The attainment of Pala should certain be the paramapada. But why should AzhwAr say the Pala is the supreme ruler ship. (a totally worldly aiSwarya)?’

BaTTar answered ‘After the birth of tirumangai AzhwAr, even the worldly aiSwarya has become the highest pruShArta (since AzhwAr earned the money even by robbing)’.

There is another interpretation.

muDikoL mannavar- The king of this earth (kShatriya)

tam mudalavar – higher than them—brahma

mudalvarAvArE—higher than them are nityasooris

Therefore the sentence means who read these pASuras will be one of the nityasooris. This is the opinion of peiryavAchchAn piLLai too.
