The first two lines talk of rAmavatAra and the second two lines are kriShNAvatAra.

Sree rAma came to panchavaTi wearing kAShAya v astra. He killed rAvaNa and other rAkShasas, when he abducted seeta. rAma’s sankalpa never fails and His efforts are always victorious. He decided to kill rAvaNa and killed him in no time.

kriShNa revealed His soulaBya by stealing butter etc. from the Aichchis houses. He who came as rAma and kriShNa lies in tiruevvuL.

rAvaNa had an improper love on the most beautiful pirATTi and abducted her. rAma killed him by discharging an extraordinary arrow that it severed the 10 heads of rAvaNa making them roll on the ground. This divya dESa tiruevvuL is the place where He lies.

poiyyilAda pon muDihaL- rAvaNa was a great mAyAvi and an expert in mAyAyuddha like all rAkShasas. The word ‘real’ here means the 10 heads cut off by rAma were not ‘mAya heads’ but his own.

muDihaL can also mean crowns. rAvaNa went to all direction and all lOkas to conquer everyone. He conquered all the lOkas and had ‘veerABiShEka’ and ‘vijayAbiShEka’. These conquests made him real king having 10 crowns.

In Sree rAmAvatAra hanumAn acted as a messenger of Sree rAma. He went to lanka, met pirATTi, gained first hand knowledge about the city, forts, arms, plan of the city etc. etc. This enabled Sree rAma to conquer rAvaNa and others.

In Sree kriShNAvatAra He Himself acted as a messenger for the pANDavas and went to duryOdana. He belittled Himself so much that ‘This is the messenger coming from this king’ would people say about Him.

Once BaTTar was asked by his SiShya ‘Sree rAma had not had the greatness to act as a messenger which Sree kriShNa had’. To this BaTTar answered—‘it is not a question of having greatness or not. Sree rAma is a guNakkaDal (ocean of auspicious qualities). He would have acted even as a messenger in spite of His being a chakravarti. But there was no one to bid Him do so. So He had to send hanumAn to do so. But after seeing him hanumAn performed excellently his job, He desired to act as a messenger in His next avatAra at least. So in kriShNAvatAra He fulfilled His desire. Hence He chose to be born in a shepherd race rather than a kShatriya’.

Sree kriShNa who took birth in the Ayarkula as a son of nandagOpa, who killed the powerful seven bulls for the sake of napinnai pirATTi; who is the nAyaka of my kula-resides in evvuL.

pandaNainda melviralAL—pirATTi cares for both the jeevas and paramAtma. The expression of holding a ball as a playing instrument represents her care for leela viBooti and being a consort of emberumAn represents her freedom with nityaviBootinAtha.

Lord nArAyaNa lies on a small tender banyan leaf shrinking His huge form like that of a baby. This puNDareekAkSha lies here in tiruevvuL, among the green forest where bees buzz in the cool flowering trees.

He—who is the antaryAmi of the pancha Bootas; who is the father of brahma; who is revealed by sAma vEda; who offers one half of His body to Siva, resides in tiruevvuL.

Though Siva is great in wearing konrai malar and ganga water on his matted locks, he is considered very great because he wears BagavAn’s tiruvaDi on his head—the tiruvaDi that measured the worlds.

AzhwAr uses the word ‘munivan’ to refer to BagavAn. ‘muni’ means one who meditates. Here in this context it means ‘sankalpa’. The sankalpa is to create—‘bahu SyAm prajAyEyEti’ .

moortimoovarAhi—He is the antaryAmi of brahma to do SruShTi; Himself as viShNu He does stiti and as rudra He does samhAra.

vEdam virittu uraitta punidan—As kriShNa He preached the SAstra to arjuna in Bagavat geeta; since the preaching is done not for the sake of arjuna alone but for the whole world, He is called ‘punidan’—good hearted.

tAn SEyan oruvan Ahilum tan aDiyArku iniyan—He is far from those who try to reach Him by intellect, reasoning and argument etc. He is very near to His Baktas who reach Him through prapatti or Bakti.

AzhwAr further gives many adjectives—poovai vaNNan, aNNal, puNNiyan, viNNavarkOn, etc. to the emberumAn who resides in tiruevvuL.

emberumAn who has pirATTi in His tirumAbu lives in tiruevvuL. pirATTi is called ‘pandirukkum mEl viralAL’—a general phrase used for ladies of high caste. She has left her lotus abode in order to take His tirumArbu as her permanent abode. He is beautiful with sapphire complexion and is the natural Lord of indra who is dEvarAja.

tirumangai AzhwAr has written these ten pASuras about emberumAn residing in tiruevvuL which is a beautiful garden city where bees hum drinking honey. Here Baktas come with garlands in their hands to worship Him. Those who read these pASuras will rule over the kingdom on this earth if they so desire or will go to paramapada and rule over the place.
